As part of its Research and Development role, The National Institute for Environment and Development in Suriname (NIMOS) is currently implementing, several projects that focus on climate change, adaptation, climate resilience and environmental management. These projects range from 0.2 to 7.5 million US Dollars and being administered by several international organizations.

 

In this regard, Suriname is engaged in a national REDD+ readiness process. The country aims at getting ready to use the international REDD+ mechanism as a tool for sustainable development, combining social and economic prosperity with keeping a high percentage of forest cover and limiting deforestation in Suriname.  NIMOS, on behalf of the Government of Suriname, is the National Technical Focal Point and coordinating body of the Suriname REDD+ Project.
