The walk-in-school sessions that started in 2017 will be continued this year. These activities are and will remain important activities within the engagement process. In the period January to July 2018, a total of 9 walk-in-school sessions were held. During these sessions, a total of 227 people (96 men and 131 women) were informed about the REDD + program. During these sessions, the Forest Covering Monitoring Unit (FCMU) of Foundation for Forest Management and Production Control (SBB), informed the people also about the Forest monitoring system and Forest reference level regarding the REDD+ program. The different institutions and stakeholders group that were informed were:

  • The National Institute for Environment and Development (NIMOS)
  • The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science
  • The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism
  • The Commissioner’s office of district Marowijne
  • The Commissioner’s office of district Brokopondo
  • The Rayon Inspectors of Paramaribo, districts Commewijne and Wanica
  • The Commissioner’s office of district Para
  • The Foundation for Forest Management and Production Control (SBB)

In the engagement process it is also important to inform children about the REDD + program. It is important that children are taken into account when carrying out projects, because every choice that a country makes will have and will affect the younger generation. In this context children are informed about the program in a very simple way.
